The Upsides Of Not Traveling in 2020

A traveler confidently ascends an escalator at a bustling station, holding a colorful suitcase adorned with stickers, ready for new adventures.

If you’re feeling a strong case of wanderlust these days, you are not alone. The pandemic may have put our travel plans on pause, forcing us to trade boarding passes for quiet nights at home. Cancelled trips and postponed adventures became the new normal for nearly everyone this year.

After months of lockdown, the desire to break free from the same four walls is completely understandable. We all miss the thrill of discovery, the joy of visiting loved ones, and the simple pleasure of a shared meal with friends. While we must continue to do our part by wearing masks and social distancing, it doesn’t mean we have to stop dreaming. The world is still out there, waiting for us when the time is right.

Travel and health precautions during the pandemic: a model airplane, passports, airline tickets, and virus models symbolize the intersection of global travel and health safety measures.

Some of the upsides of not traveling for 2020:

  1. Many used this time to pay off debts and refocus on financial wellness.
  2. Travelers began planning dream trips they never considered before.
  3. For some, travel has become an essential part of their lifestyle, especially after months of lockdown.
  4. There’s a growing awareness and renewed focus on personal health and surroundings.
  5. People are now more intentional about cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining hygiene.
  6. There’s a clear shift toward avoiding overcrowded spaces and seeking mindful environments.
  7. The pandemic revealed how much more airlines and travel providers could have done all along.
  8. Many took the opportunity to explore destinations closer to home with fresh eyes.
  9. Simple things once taken for granted are now seen as valuable priorities.
  10. Households found renewed joy in spending quality time together and strengthening connections.

The wound inflicted by the pandemic on the travel is deep, and it hasn’t stopped bleeding yet. However, on the flip side, we all know travel will return, but it will never be the same.

Until you travel again, remember to social distance, wear a mask, and wash your hands often.
